Smith Rock State Park Crack Climbing Camp
Join Kaf Adventures for two days of guided crack climbing and professional instruction at Smith Rock State Park in Oregon. Our climbing guides will teach you to place and trust protection. They’ll coach you every step of the way as you jam, lock, and wiggle your way to the top of your project.
Although Smith Rock is know for being the birthplace of American sport climbing, it also is home to many incredible traditional routes! It is a world-famous climbing destination located in the heart of Central Oregon, near Bend. Famous for incredible rock, warm weather, and stellar scenery, there isn’t much more that you’ll be left wanting from Smith Rock.
At Crack Camp, we’ll spend the weekend learning and laughing in community with one another. Accommodations will be at the Bivy Campground right on the edge of the park. (Yes, they have showers!). Join us either Friday night or Saturday morning for the last hoorah of climbing season as we prepare for the snow to fly in the PNW.

Whether you are new to climbing or an experienced climber looking to hone multi-pitch techniques, Kaf’s Smith Rock State Park Weekend trip is the perfect opportunity to discover a new skill or develop ones you have been practicing, all in a stunning high desert setting.
This course is run with an open format, letting students focus on specific skills they want to develop under the professional guidance from Kaf instructors.
The weekend will begin with a survey of students’ learning goals, with Kaf instructors refining the weekend’s plans and climbing venues to meet those goals. For both climbing days, instructors will take students to crags that best suit their objectives, spending the day custom tailoring skills practice and real-world scenario applications that can best foster student growth. Expect action-packed clinics that will leave you tired but satisfied at the end of a good day.
For travel to and from Smith Rock students should budget travel time according to their distance from the park. Portland requires a 3-hour, 15 minute drive. Seattle requires a 5-hour, 15 minute drive. Students arriving from outside the northwest region should plan on organizing flights to depart the following day after the conclusion of the course.
