Day 2 & 3: Skills Instruction (El Potrero Chico)
- Participants will awaken to a nice breakfast and an early departure to practice rock skills on sharp grey limestone cliffs. Learn lead climbing theory, practice building sport anchors, cleaning anchors, rappelling, and lead climbing with your El Potrero Chico guides. Refresh your outdoor climbing experience, learning from other like-minded climbers and enjoy the scenery of the area.
Day 4: El Potrero Chico
- Spend the morning discussing multi-pitch theory as you enjoy a hearty breakfast. After breakfast, the group will walk the crags, learning the geography of the El Potrero Chico climbing areas and breaking into groups for the day. One group will sport climb together as the other group will go multi-pitching. Sport climbers can expect to be leading on their own from the experience of the group. Your instructor will put up ropes if members are uncomfortable. Climbing will end for your convenience by dark with ample time to relax at the end of the day.
Day 5: El Potrero Chico
- We have the same itinerary as day 4. Multi-pitch climbers can expect a thorough discussion and application of multi-pitch sport climbing. This includes an understanding of rope systems and when to apply them, safety while climbing, lead theory, anchor construction, belay station management, and belaying from above. Not all participants are required to multi-pitch.
Day 6: El Potrero Chico
- We have the same itinerary as day 4 and 5. Participants will, depending upon experience, be able to lead on multi-pitch with their Instructor as a safety monitor throughout the day. There will be ample opportunity during days 2-6 to relax, nap, swim, hike, or hang with the locals.
Day 7: Group Cragging (El Potrero Chico)
- Learn and refine steep sport climbing techniques while watching others. Try something harder than you would normally, as there will be plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself. Enjoy an exploration of the area. The evening will consist of a going-away celebration with a great farewell feast!
