permits & reservations
Kaf Adventures will provide any backcountry permits or timed-entry reservations needed for your trip, the cost of which is included in your course fee. National Park entry fees are not included.
If your course takes place on consecutive days but is not an overnight, you are responsible for your own lodging and meals. Feel free to ask us if you're not sure!
Driving & parking passes
Kaf Adventures does not provide any transportation to or from the trailhead or other designated meeting location. The exact time and location will be announced in the pre-trip email sent by your guide to all registrants. We encourage participants to carpool as much as possible. You are invited to “Reply All” to that email in order to coordinate.
Most of the parking areas or trailheads we use require a parking pass or permit that may differ depending on the land management agency. These are not provided by Kaf and are your own responsibility. Please ensure that you have the proper parking pass before the course begins. You will know for sure what pass you will need after meeting location details are sent in the pre-trip email. Peruse the resources below to learn more, but we are also happy to help you determine which pass you need to purchase.
flying in
Kaf recommends that anyone flying from outside the course area location arrive a minimum of 24 hours in advance of your course's start time. Kaf also recommends participants do not book a return flight until late (red-eye) on the last day of the trip, or better yet, the following day.
For courses in Washington, use Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
For courses in Oregon, use Portland International Airport.
Travel insurance
When you register for a course or trip with Kaf Adventures, you are making a financial committment to an experience of a lifetime. Unfortunately, sometimes even the best laid plans are impacted by circumstances out of our control, such as illness or delayed flights. Our Cancellation Policy outlines what to expect regarding course fees, but we know you may have incurred other expenses as well. Additionally, in case of emergency and the need for medical care or evacuation, normal health insurance coverage is not always sufficient.
To best assure you are taken care of should an unforeseen situation arise, we strongly encourge purchasing trip insurance, especially if you are traveling from out of state to join us.
There are many options when it comes to travel insurance and it can be overwhelming to sift through them all. Kaf Adventures has done our homework so you don't have to and recommends Travelex Insurance Services.
Travelex offers multiple plans with varying coverage so you can choose the one that best meets your needs. Keep in mind that rock climbing and mountaineering are only covered by the Adventure Sports Upgrade within the Select Plan.
The American Alpine Club offers a Rescue Benefit to its members, providing reimbursement for some evacuation and medical costs for members at the Partner level and above. AAC members are also eligible for discounts on additional travel protection and insurance.
