Multi-Pitch Climbing Course

Location

Build the technical knowledge and experience to venture farther up the rock walls or into the alpine. This course is intended to build on your knowledge of sport and traditional climbing to introduce strategy about climbing multiple rope lengths (pitches) off the ground.

You will learn about knots used for multi-pitch climbing, advanced anchor techniques, efficient belay transitions, rope management, belaying from above, communication on multi-pitch climbs, managing multiple rappels, basic self-rescue and more in this action-packed two-day course.

Each morning, meet your climbing instructor at 8am and hike to the climbing site. You can expect to be back to the parking lot around 4pm each afternoon. You are responsible for your own lodging and food. Campsites are available nearby the climbing area.

Day 1 - You will spend this day focusing on the individual multi-pitch components that support a larger picture. Your instructor will break each section into smaller pieces as we build up the skill set. All lessons will be held on the ground in lecture sessions with practical application after each one.

Day 2 - The second day will give you the opportunity to put the skills you learned on day one into practice, focusing on student-led multi-pitch climbs. The course will finish with a closing and debrief.

  • Sport Lead Climbing or equivalent experience.
  • Traditional Lead Climbing or equivalent experience.
  • A solid foundation of sport and trad climbing skills including proficiency in a variety of climbing knots and hitches ability to lead belay.
  • Experience building complex anchors using traditional protection.
  • Any additional climbing experience will enhance your ability to learn, but is not required.
  • Ability to be moderately active for 2 full days.
  • Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email full of important information - make sure to read it thoroughly!
  • 3-5 days before your course you will receive an email from your guide containing even more details, including the exact meetup location and time.
  • Leading up to your course, make sure to eat healthy, drink extra water, and get plenty of sleep.
  • Please arrive on time and ready to go at your pre-arranged meeting location. To get the most of our day, we'd like to begin right at the designated start time.
  • All along the way, our office team is available via email or phone to answer any questions you may have.
