Rock climbing can be a lifelong pursuit. While it's relatively easy to acquire the basic skills, many climbers find it can be difficult to push to the next level on their own. The practice of mentorship is inextricably linked to the history and culture of rock climbing, where experienced climbers shared their knowledge of routes, techniques, ethics, and safety with up-and-comers. This relationship is what we strive to recreate through this Mentorship Program.

The Rock Climbing Mentorship Program is designed to support you as a climber and help you reach your goals. You’ll be working in small groups, directly with an AMGA certified Rock Guide. Spend 4 months this summer (June - September) climbing at crags all over the Washington and beyond. You’ll practice skills like safety evaluation, rope management, decision-making, and climbing technique; all with a professional guiding you along the way. Get stronger, learn how to climb multi-pitch alpine routes while placing your own protective gear, and get to know the best places to try out next. Feel confident knowing you have a pro by your side to give coaching and feedback, and take that newfound confidence with you when the program is over. As a bonus, you’ll gain a community of new climbing partners along the way! It’s a win, win, win!

This program is best for…

  • Climbers who comfortably lead 5.9 or higher in the gym and want to take their climbing outdoors.
  • Climbers who already lead outdoors and are ready to take their climbing to the next level.
  • Climbers interested in leading, who already follow traditional routes up to 5.6.
  • Climbers interested in meeting others who share similar goals.
  • Folks who would prefer to advance their climbing while under the supervision of a trained professional.

How it Works

The Rock Climbing Mentorship Program will run between June and September, and have up to 40 total days to choose from (25 full days and 15 evening sessions)

  • The enrollment period closes on May 25th, and registration is limited to 30 participants. Once registration is closed, Kaf Adventures will release a custom calendar so each participant can register for the dates of their choosing.
  • Participants will be eligible to enroll for up to 16 outdoor excursions (10 full days and 6 evening sessions). Because dates are self-selected you can choose how much or little you’d like to participate.
  • Trip sizes will be limited to 12 people. To keep things equitable and for participants to have a similar amount of time in the program, Kaf reserves the ability to adjust mentee participation.
  • A fee structure and last-minute cancellation/rebooking will be enforced once in the program to ensure we maximize spaces filled for each program day.
  • Kaf Adventures reserves the right to alter the scheduling process in the event of low enrollment. However, all participants will be well informed of any changes being made.
  • Monthly payment plans are available.

  • Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email full of important information - make sure to read it thoroughly!
  • Expect to hear from your guide or our team about a month before your trip or course. You will receive an email containing even more details, including exact meet up location and time and any other pertinent precourse information.
  • Leading up to your course, make sure to eat healthy, drink extra water, and get plenty of sleep.
