An important responsibility of traveling on a rope team is to be prepared for rescue in glaciated terrain and have the technical skills and confidence necessary to perform those skills before an accident occurs.

As these skills are quite technical, we believe learning them for the first time is most successful in a local city park where many of the variables can be reduced. If this is the beginning of your crevasse rescue journey, check out our Crevasse Rescue Fundamentals course.

Once you have the basics of the systems down, it's helpful to solidify the skills in a more realistic environment where we can actually build snow anchors and see how it would feel to haul someone in the snow. We will go through various rescue scenarios and add more complex techniques so you are as ready as possible before venturing into glaciated terrain.

This course is great as a second step in learning how to extract yourself or your climbing partner from a crevasse and also serves well as a review or practice session under the guidance of professionals.

If you are looking for a multi-day experience or to combine this with other skills or peaks, please contact us to create a custom course.

Meet your instructor at 8am and hike to the practice site.

In the morning you will discuss communication as a member of a rope team and review the basic pieces of the anchoring and hauling systems before getting a chance to put them all together.

After a lunch break, we will slowly introduce more complex techniques and scenarios with plenty of time to practice. Finish the day knowing you are well equipped to perform a rescue should a crevasse fall occur.

You can expect to be back to the parking lot around 4pm.
